The Georgian parliamentary delegation currently visiting Brussels held a meeting at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss bilateral relations and the current state of Georgia-EU ties.
Following the meeting, Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, shared details of the discussions, describing the dialogue as “very interesting, productive, and highly sincere”.
“We had a very interesting and fruitful discussion. We answered all the questions they had about the current situation in Georgia, the situation in the [South Caucasus] region, the Russian-occupation, and the challenges in our relations with the European Union. We introduced the Belgian side to the issues that are problematic for us. Among them, the demands regarding the imposition of sanctions against Russia, interference in Georgia’s internal affairs and, in particular, interference in the elections by certain politicians”, Samkharadze said.
“The conversation also focused on the fact that the European Union does not recognize that the demonstrations [in Tbilisi] were violent. However, we have facts confirming this. Of course, we conveyed all this to the Belgian side. We know what their concerns are, especially regarding the laws. Therefore, we had a very sincere and open dialogue”, he concluded.
