Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Wednesday criticised recent European Parliament resolutions and statements concerning Georgia, describing them as documents built on “false narratives” and aimed at damaging the country’s interests and reputation.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Botchorishvili acknowledged that European Parliament resolutions do not carry binding force and have limited practical impact on European Union policy.
“In her interview with Imedi TV, Botchorishvili acknowledged that European Parliament resolutions do not carry binding force and have limited practical impact on European Union policy. For us, the European Parliament is an EU institution just like the European Commission and the Council of the European Union. Therefore, we cannot entirely disregard its documents because they reflect the views of certain politicians and help shape particular narratives. These are documents built on lies, false narratives, which are created with the sole purpose of harming the interests of our country and tarnishing its reputation”, the FM said.
While she maintained that the documents carry little political weight, she said it was unacceptable for members of the European Parliament to attack Georgia and its society on what she described as unfounded claims.
