Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, on Wednesday criticised the report on Georgia prepared by Lithuanian MEP Rasa Juknevičienė, describing it as a politically motivated document containing unfair allegations.
Makhashvili criticised Juknevičienė’s report, which urged sanctions against the ruling Georgian Dream party and several media outlets.
The official noted that the report contains unfair accusations and represents a futile attempt to further harm relations between Georgia and the European Union.
“This document is filled with completely unfair accusations. This is yet another resolution, a kind of political attack and a futile attempt to further damage Georgia-EU relations and, if there is any prospect of resetting these relations, to undermine that process”, Makhashvili said.
The European Parliament adopted Rasa Juknevičienė’s report on Georgia. The report was approved by 436 votes in favour and 145 against.
The report adopted by the European Parliament discusses sanctions against representatives of the Georgian authorities.
The European Parliament also calls on EU member states to refrain from holding meetings with the ruling Georgian Dream party. The document further discusses sanctions against television broadcasters, including Imedi TV.
