On the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the fall of Sokhumi and in tribute to the victims of the 1992-1993 war in Abkhazia, the national flag of Georgia was lowered at the Government Administration building.
By decision of the Government, state flags are flown at half-mast across the entire territory of Georgia, on all administrative buildings, as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the conflict.
The fall of Sokhumi on September 27, 1993, marked a tragic chapter in Georgia’s history, when more than 10,000 people were killed and over 250,000 were forcibly displaced from their homes in Abkhazia.
The memory of the fallen continues to be honoured nationwide.
