Georgian State Security Service on Saturday detained a foreign citizen on charges of using a forged official document.
According to the Service, officers from the counterintelligence department have been conducting intensive counterintelligence and operational measures aimed at identifying individuals linked to foreign intelligence services and exposing their involvement in various criminal activities.
“As a result of investigative actions carried out in this direction, we have detained a foreign citizen who is charged with using a forged official document”, said Lasha Maghradze, the first deputy head of the State Security Service.
Investigators state that the detainee also attempted to fraudulently obtain ownership of high-value real estate by using a fake passport belonging to another country’s citizen.
Specifically, the suspect allegedly tried to grant a third party the right to dispose of real estate registered in Georgia by carrying out a notary action under a false identity.
