75 individuals, including both Georgian and foreign nationals, have been arrested on drug-related charges over the past 48 hours, the Georgian Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Sakhokia announced at a briefing.
According to Sakhokia, the detainees are charged with the illegal acquisition, possession, sale, and facilitation of the sale of large and particularly large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to implement strict measures defined by law in the fight against drug-related crime. Law enforcement officers have carried out yet another successful operation simultaneously in Tbilisi and multiple regions”, Sakhokia continued.
He noted that evidence obtained through covert investigative actions - specifically audio and video recordings authorized by a court order - confirmed that the majority of the suspects were systematically involved in drug distribution, using various methods and channels to carry out illegal sales.
During searches of the suspects’ persons, vehicles, and residences, as well as during investigative experiments conducted at locations identified by the detainees, police seized large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances prepared for sale. Among the confiscated substances were cocaine, heroin, alpha-PVP, MDMA, methadone, Subutex, buprenorphine, pregabalin, Lyrica, and marijuana.
Law enforcement officers also seized firearms, packaging materials used for drug distribution, and cash allegedly obtained from drug sales.
