Georgian law enforcement officers have detained two members of the opposition United National Movement party - Murtaz Zodelava and Irakli Nadiradze - during a rally on Rustaveli Avenue in the capital city of Tbilisi.
According to authorities, the detained individuals are believed to have organized the recent break-in at the Presidential Palace.
In a live television broadcast, Murtaz Zodelava openly admitted that he was the first to enter the courtyard of the Presidential Palace.
Zodelava stated that he did so to “set a personal example” for protesters and urged them to follow him in storming the palace grounds.
Both Zodelava and Nadiradze were arrested during ongoing demonstrations in Tbilisi.
Meanwhile, police officers have entered the clinic where the opposition leader Paata Burchuladze has been hospitalized.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has not yet issued an official statement regarding the arrests or the investigation.
