The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia on Monday said that Simon Leviev, the Tinder Swindler star and con artist, was arrested on Sunday in the city Batumi.
The Ministry stated that Simon Leviev was wanted by Interpol, and his arrest was carried out within that framework.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the reason for conman Shimon Hayut's (his real name) arrest was unknown, even to his lawyers.
“I spoke with him after the arrest, but I still don't know the reason. He travels freely all over the world”, his lawyer told Israeli outlet Walla.
Simon Leviev is an Israeli fraudster who gained global notoriety after the release of Netflix’s documentary The Tinder Swindler. For years, he allegedly posed as the heir to a diamond empire, using the dating app Tinder to lure women.
By flaunting luxury lifestyles and convincing his victims of his wealth, he then defrauded them through elaborate schemes.
