Nika Gvaramia, the leader of the opposition Coalition for Change, on Tuesday was sentenced to eight months of imprisonment and banned from holding office for two years.
The Tbilisi City Court found Gvaramia guilty of failing to comply with the request of the Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission.
Gvaramia did not attend the announcement of the verdict and was not present for his final speech.
Gvaramia had been ordered to pay a ₾30,000 [$11 thousand]
bail as a preventive measure after failing to appear before the Temporary Parliamentary Investigative Commission.
He did not pay within the time limit established by law. Accordingly, the bail was replaced with imprisonment.
