The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs on Monday reported that officers of the Adjara Police Department, together with the Batumi District Division and the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, had arrested a Turkish citizen for attempting to illegally purchase an especially large quantity of narcotic drugs.
According to the investigation, the suspect sought to acquire a significant shipment of cocaine sent to Georgia from abroad.
As part of a complex operation, law enforcement officers carried out a controlled delivery of the parcel sent from abroad.
After taking possession of the package, the suspect was arrested. The cocaine, hidden inside jars, was seized as evidence.
The Ministry noted that the alleged crimes were punishable by up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
