Tbilisi City Court replaces Nika Gvaramia’s bail with pre-trial detention

Nika Gvaramia, the leader of the opposition Coalition for Change, has had his bail measure replaced with pre-trial detention.

The decision was made by Judge Jvebe Nachkebia of the Tbilisi City Court. The reason for the change was Gvaramia’s failure to pay the previously imposed bail.

Gvaramia was not present in the courtroom during the hearing. Before the session began, he announced that he would voluntarily go to the penitentiary facility in Rustavi. Later, he arrived at Rustavi's No. 12 penitentiary institution.

Gvaramia had been ordered to pay a 30,000 GEL bail as a preventive measure after failing to appear before the Temporary Parliamentary Investigative Commission. He had publicly declared he would not pay the bail. The deadline for payment expired on June 7.
