Zhou Qian, the Chinese Ambassador to Georgia, on Tuesday said that he does not believe US Congressman Joe Wilson represents the policy of the United States and dismissed his remarks regarding China-Georgia relations.
In his remarks, the Ambassador noted that cooperation between China and Georgia is based on bilateral relations and should not be viewed through the prism of geopolitical blocs or alliances.
“To be frank, we are not interested in comments made by an American congressman about China-Georgia relations. Our friendship, cooperation, and relations with Georgia are not part of any alliance, nor are they directed against any third country. I do not believe that a congressman from the United States represents US policy, and we are not interested in such comments”, Qian said.
For context, the US House of Representatives recently passed the Countering China’s Control in the Caucasus Act, which calls for the preparation of a classified report on alleged Russian and Chinese intelligence activities in Georgia.
Prior to the bill’s adoption, Congressman Joe Wilson addressed the House.
“The illegitimate Georgian Dream regime is currently in the process of selling the country to the Chinese Communist Party, war criminal Putin, and Iran, against the will of the Georgian people and the interests of the United States”, Wilson stated.
