Georgian foreign minister Maka Botchorishvili on Friday said the establishment of the Diplomacy Academy was not merely an educational initiative, but an “intellectual shield” for the country and a strategic investment in its future.
Botchorishvili commented on the Georgian government’s decision to establish the Diplomacy Academy, emphasising the importance of strengthening the country’s foreign service amid current geopolitical challenges.
“Today, the government of Georgia made an important decision regarding the establishment of the Diplomacy Academy”, the minister stated.
According to Botchorishvili, the implementation of Georgia’s foreign policy priorities requires an effective and strong diplomatic service capable of responding to modern international challenges.
She noted that the ministry of foreign affairs launched a comprehensive reform last year, based on fundamental analysis and tailored to contemporary needs. The reform aims to ensure that Georgia has the best possible opportunities to protect its national interests and effectively implement government priorities on the international stage.
“To achieve this goal, alongside experienced diplomats, Georgia needs a young, educated generation that is well-adapted to modern demands and committed to defending the country’s interests”, Botchorishvili continued.
The minister also highlighted the broader university reform initiated by the Georgian government last year, aimed at fundamentally improving the quality of education in the country.
Taking into account the goals of both educational and foreign service reforms, the new Diplomacy Academy will provide undergraduate and graduate programs in political science and international relations.
“The establishment of the Diplomacy Academy is not merely an educational project - it is the country’s intellectual shield and a strategic investment in the future”, she continued.
She added that the practical application of the fundamental knowledge acquired within the Academy should enable Georgia to firmly defend its national interests and sovereignty.
“Our goal is to prepare highly qualified young professionals equipped with strong analytical skills, solid ethical standards, and innovative vision, so they can effectively strengthen the country’s public service in today’s rapidly changing world”, she said.
