Georgia’s vice prime minister and minister of foreign affairs Maka Botchorishvili on Friday highlighted the importance of European integration and the European Union enlargement process while addressing a working session of the Delphi Economic Forum in Greece.
Botchorishvili emphasised that Georgia’s path toward European integration remains firm and reflects the country’s identity and historic choice.
“Georgia’s European integration path is firm; it is part of our identity and a historic choice. This is a values-based choice”, she stated.
The minister also underlined that the enlargement process should be viewed in a broader geopolitical context.
“Enlargement is a geopolitical process and a necessity. It should not fall victim to narrow bureaucratic approaches, as this would undermine its core idea. Enlargement is not an end in itself - it is a tool we use to achieve something more important, which is ensuring shared security and peace”, Botchorishvili concluded.
As part of the forum, the Georgian vice prime minister participated in a working session titled “The protection provided by enlargement: security as a new pillar of accession”, where discussions focused on the growing role of security in the EU enlargement process.
