Georgian FM: Georgian Gov’t working daily to renew strategic partnership with United States

Georgian foreign minister Maka Botchorishvili on Wednesday underscored the necessity of renewing strategic relations between Georgia and the United States.

The minister highlighted that the Georgian government is in daily contact with American counterparts and has been transparent about its desire to revitalize the partnership.

“We are, of course, working with the American side on a daily basis. Our position regarding the renewal of strategic relations is very well known to them. We have not hidden anything from our society; we have publicly stated our positions”, the FM said in an interview with Rustavi 2 TV channel.

Botchorishvili also addressed the approach taken during the administration of US president Joe Biden, describing decisions made toward Georgia as unfair.

“The decision taken by the Biden administration was truly unfair, especially under conditions when Georgia was an exceptionally reliable partner for the United States in the region. Against this background, such an attitude toward Georgia can only be considered unjust”, she continued.

She noted that a shift in approaches and attitudes is already visible under the administration of Donald Trump, creating new opportunities to deepen bilateral relations. She highlighted that intensive communication is underway between the Georgian and US sides, including contacts with the State Department.

“We expect certain steps to be taken to intensify our political dialogue and discuss more issues with the American side, so that the relations that existed between Georgia and the United States can be developed with renewed strength, new energy, and new opportunities”, the FM noted.

The minister added that additional communication and working-level meetings are planned in the near future, which will allow both sides to discuss in greater detail the current state of bilateral relations and future prospects.
