Nikoloz Samkharadze, the chair of the foreign relations committee of the Parliament of Georgia, on Wednesday described the discussions with the US deputy national security advisor Andrew Baker as highly productive and wide-ranging.
In his remarks over the meeting held at the White House, Samkharadze noted that the primary focus of the dialogue was the revitalisation of the bilateral relationship between Georgia and the United States.
“Of course, the main topic was the improvement and normalisation of Georgian-American relations and the restoration of the strategic partnership. We talked about the readiness and interests that the Georgian side has in this regard. We exchanged views on which issues could become key factors in restoring these relations”, Samkharadze said.
“Also, of course, we talked about security challenges, including the ongoing developments in Iran. What impact will all this have on Georgia and the South Caucasus [region]”, he continued.
As Samkharadze said officials also talked in quite detail about the development of the Middle Corridor, the process of normalisation of Armenia-Azerbaijan as well as the threats arising from the Russian occupation.
“We hope that this meeting and the spirit in which it was held will allow us to take quite successful steps in the future”, he concluded.
