As part of the official visit to the United States, Nikoloz Samkharadze, the chair of the foreign relations committee of the Parliament of Georgia, is set to meet the deputy secretary of the national security council at the White House to discuss Georgian-American relations, including efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
In his remarks, Samkharadze noted that the purpose of the meetings was to ensure that the strategic partnership between Georgia and the United States was meaningful and not merely symbolic.
“Today we have a meeting at the White House… at the National Security Council. We are also continuing our meetings with members of Congress. The main issue is Georgian-American relations. Our desire is to elevate these relations once again to the level of a strategic partnership, while adding additional substance so that this partnership is not only on paper”, he said.
He further noted that the agenda included Georgia’s ongoing threats from Russian occupation and the Russia–Ukraine conflict.
“We will discuss the threats of occupation and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Accordingly, there is a broad range of topics that we will address both at the National Security Council and in Congress”, Samkharadze concluded.
