The United States is striving to maintain constructive relations with Georgia, according to a statement shared with a Georgian online media outlet Netgazeti by a spokesperson of the US Department of State.
Netgazeti reported that it had asked the State Department what impact Georgia’s current relations with Iran could have on US-Georgia ties and broader regional political issues.
The US Department of State further expressed strong support for Georgia’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
In response, the spokesperson emphasised that the United States has been Georgia’s “preferred partner” for 33 years and reaffirmed Washington’s strong support for Georgia’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
“The United States seeks constructive relations with Georgia”, the spokesperson wrote.
The statement also highlighted a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, mediated by President Donald Trump, describing it as an initiative that offers “transformational opportunities” for the entire South Caucasus.
According to the spokesperson, Georgia can both contribute to and benefit significantly from the stability and prosperity made possible by the agreement.
The State Department added that the US will continue engaging with the Georgian Government on issues affecting bilateral relations and Georgia’s political environment. It also noted that Washington will consider specific steps the Georgian Government could take to demonstrate a serious commitment to strengthening and advancing relations between the two countries.
