Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili is in The Hague, where a high-level diplomatic conference hosted by the Council of Europe is set to begin in the coming hours.
The Minister was invited to attend the conference by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The conference will mark an important step in international efforts to support Ukraine, as participating states are expected to establish an International Claims Commission.
The Commission will review compensation claims for damages caused by Russia’s internationally recognised unlawful actions committed in Ukraine or against Ukraine from February 24, 2022.
A convention formalising the creation of the Commission will also be signed during the conference.
Georgia is among the first 25 countries to support the Council of Europe’s initiative. Prior to the establishment of the International Claims Commission, the Register of Damage for Ukraine was created in 2023 to record claims for compensation.
Georgia also supported that initiative, reaffirming its consistent position in backing international mechanisms aimed at ensuring accountability and justice for Ukraine.
