Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, together with members of his Government, attended a concert by the Georgian State Chamber Choir at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, held in connection with the Vatican’s Jubilee year.
The program included Georgian chants, folk songs, and choral works by Georgian composers, including compositions by Ilia II, the Catholicos Patriarch of Georgia’s Orthodox Christian Church.
The Patriarch’s Ave Maria was performed by Yano Alibegashvili together with the choir. Composer Zviad Bolkvadze and choir director Giorgi Donadze also participated in the concert.
The event was organized with the support of the Georgian Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Embassy of Georgia to the Holy See.
The Vatican’s Jubilee year is celebrated in Rome once every 25 years, a tradition dating back to the year 1300.
