Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Thursday said that today’s debates in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe were intended to serve the political interests of the opposition just two days before the local elections.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili noted that the critical remarks voiced during the session were deliberately designed to create a negative narrative against the Georgian Government on the international stage.
“Today’s debates in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe are in fact aimed at setting a political agenda for the opposition ahead of the elections, two days before the vote”, the FM said.
“They are meant to provide certain leverage, so that once again a negative agenda against Georgia’s government can be shaped. The critical statements made within these debates are orchestrated and pre-planned. This is by no means appropriate toward a country where elections are taking place in just two days. The goal is clear - to create, to some extent, an international agenda against the Georgian authorities”, Botchorishvili concluded.
