A Georgian parliamentary delegation, led by Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, is on an official visit to Brazil to strengthen bilateral relations and explore cooperation opportunities.
The delegation met with Maria Laura da Rocha, the Secretary General (Deputy Minister) of Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss a range of issues from trade to regional security.
The meeting focused on bolstering Georgia-Brazil relations. The two sides reviewed the prospects for a free trade agreement between Georgia and the Mercosur Union, a significant economic bloc in South America. Security concerns in both Latin America and the South Caucasus were also part of the conversation.
Georgian MPs provided an update on the situation in Georgia's occupied territories, outlining the country's peace policy. The delegation expressed gratitude to the Brazilian Government for its steadfast support of Georgia's territorial integrity in various international organizations.
Samkharadze proposed to provide assistance in implementing the non-recognition policy of the occupied territories in Latin America. According to him, Georgia needs political support also in terms of the annulment of the recognition of its occupied territories by Venezuela and Nicaragua and the involvement of Brazil in this process for ensuring the implementation of International law is paramount.
