The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday welcomed the historic peace agreement between Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, mediated by US President Donald Trump.
In an official statement, the Ministry described the agreement as a crucial milestone for sustainable peace and regional stability, opening new avenues for long-term development in the South Caucasus.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia welcomes the historic agreement reached on August 8, 2025, in Washington, mediated by the US President Donald Trump, between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, on Establishing Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia. This historic agreement represents a crucial step toward establishing sustainable peace in the South Caucasus region and opens new opportunities for the region’s long-term and stable development”, the statement reads.
The Ministry expressed particular gratitude for the United States’ significant role, specifically acknowledging President Trump’s personal efforts in resolving the decades-long conflict.
“Georgia firmly supports the consolidation of peace and the strengthening of cooperation in the region, which will contribute to the stability and prosperity of the South Caucasus. We particularly welcome the distinguished contribution and efforts of the United States of America, and personally President Donald Trump, in the process of resolving the decades-long conflict in the South Caucasus”, the Ministry noted.
The Georgian foreign office further voiced hope that this achievement will inspire a “chain reaction effect” for peacefully resolving conflicts across the Black Sea region and beyond.
“We express hope that this historic event will have a chain-reaction effect in terms of the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Black Sea region and throughout the world”, the statement said.
US President Donald Trump, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, and Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Friday signed a peace declaration, aiming to end decades of conflict and foster economic ties through initiatives like the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.
