Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, on Tuesday said that Georgia’s path to European integration would be marked by numerous challenges.
In a social media post, Makhashvili noted that the Georgian Government would take every step based on Georgia’s national interests, while many leaders of EU member states would ultimately fail in their attempts to impose unfair political maneuvering against Georgia.
“Georgia’s path to European integration will be full of obstacles. There will be forces whose demands and decisions are unfair; states that will use the issue of integration as a political weapon and turn the accession process into a never-ending labyrinth; they will play with the emotions and nerves of our people, interfere in domestic affairs, and attempt to steer Georgia according to their own agenda”, the official said.
“However, as our ancestors used to say: the waters will flow and return, but the sands will remain. We act not for today, but with the hope and goal of a better tomorrow for Georgia - a united, peaceful, and prosperous nation”, he continued.
Makhashvili further emphasised that the ruling team would adequately assess every unjust decision, while continuing to act not for the interests of any foreign capital, but for the benefit of the Georgian people.
“We will take each step based on Georgia’s interests. I am certain that many foreign Governments will be swept away by the current; many EU member state leaders will stumble in their unfair political flirtations against Georgia”, he noted.
“And we will move forward. We will give a proper assessment to every unjust decision - calmly and wisely - doing what must be done for the benefit of the people of Georgia, not in the favour of any foreign capital”, Makhashvili concluded.
