Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on Tuesday emphasised the global importance and regional benefits of large-scale joint projects with Georgia, highlighting significant growth in bilateral trade and outlined future cooperation in energy, logistics, and tourism.
At a press conference following high-level diplomatic meetings in Tbilisi, Bayramov reaffirmed the strength and strategic nature of Azerbaijan-Georgia relations.
“Today, we discussed various areas, including the economic sphere and the significance of the work of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission led by the prime ministers of our two countries. We talked about the initial results for 2024-2025 in the economic domain, as well as the indicators for the first five months of 2025, which have already exceeded $330 million, a 20 percent increase compared to the same period last year. We are confident that this dynamic will continue until the end of the year. In general, Azerbaijan, both at the state level and through its companies, is very active in Georgia’s economy”, the Minister said.
“Azerbaijan is a major investor in Georgia, with $3.6 billion invested in the Georgian economy over the years. As the honourable minister noted, the massive projects implemented with the participation of our countries significantly contribute to the prosperity of our nations. At the same time, the efficiency and benefits of these projects extend to a broader geography and are of global significance. I would mention several projects: the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan project, the Southern Gas Corridor, and the highly important Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, amongst others. These projects are the result of our successful cooperation, which has been ongoing for years and will continue for decades”, Bayramov continued.
He emphasised that cooperation between the two countries should not be limited to these projects and directions.
“Currently, several projects are underway with the participation of Azerbaijan and Georgia. In the field of alternative energy, the supply of green resources from Azerbaijan through Georgia’s territory and the Black Sea to the European market is significant. Within the framework of this project, Georgia and Azerbaijan collaborate with several European countries, as well as Turkey, and the project is progressing successfully. In November last year, during COP29, several partners, including Central Asian countries such as Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, expressed their desire to participate in the project by utilising their alternative energy potential, and relevant steps have already begun. We believe this will yield very positive results”, he noted.
The FM added that much work was being done between the two countries, including discussions on increasing cargo in the Middle Corridor.
“Today, we had the opportunity to discuss this. We have even greater potential, and we are confident that our activities will continue systematically and successfully in the coming years. We discussed the prospects for existing cooperation, as well as the geographical advantages of our countries. We believe there is tremendous potential in the tourism sector as well. The humanitarian sphere always occupies an important part of our meetings. Key areas include culture, education, and youth policy”, he concluded.
