Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday discussed the importance of stability in the South Caucasus region at a meeting with the visiting Azerbaijani Counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.
In her remarks at a press conference following the meeting, Botchorishvili noted that Georgia was closely following the ongoing dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia and welcomed the peace agreement, which hopefully would be signed soon.
She further emphasised that Georgia was sincerely interested in strengthening peace and stability in the South Caucasus region.
“We have always said and will repeat it again that Georgia is sincerely interested in strengthening peace and stability in our region. We are glad that on April 17 we had the opportunity to host a trilateral meeting. This was the first meeting in this format, when the deputy ministers of all three countries gathered in Tbilisi and discussed matters of regional importance. We believe that we have the potential to continue cooperation between all three countries in this format” Botchorishvili said.
“The ongoing processes in the region are, of course, very important. In this context, cooperation and partnership between our countries are important. We can consider the geopolitical situation that exists today as a kind of opportunity, from the point of view of protecting the interests of Georgia and Azerbaijan, taking into account their interests, developing broad cooperation with other countries in the region and making greater use of the potential that our countries have in this situation”, the Minister concluded.
