Tamar Taliashvili, Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States, on Saturday responded to recent speculative statements surrounding Georgia’s stance on the establishment of a tribunal against Russia, underscoring that Georgia has repeatedly expressed its support for the initiative and continues to stand with Ukraine.
In response to what she called “political manipulation with technical nuances”, Taliashvili emphasised that, despite inappropriate statements and attitudes from certain actors, the Georgian Government’s support for Ukraine remains unwavering.
“This is a typical case of political manipulation with technical nuances. Georgia has repeatedly expressed its supportive position regarding the initiative for this tribunal. In 2023, during the Reykjavík Summit, the Register of Damage for Ukraine was established, and Georgia was one of the first founding members of this register”, the Georgian diplomat said.
“The ink on our supportive signature had not even dried when Goncharenko [Ukrainian MP] and his partners came forward, using the exact same terminology we heard yesterday, to speak about the Georgian Government”, she continued.
Taliashvili underscored that, despite these inappropriate assessments and attitudes, Georgia continues to provide strong and public support for Ukraine.
“Regardless of these inadequate comments and evaluations, and despite Georgia’s clearly expressed and visible support, we remain steadfast in backing the people of Ukraine”, she concluded.
