Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday addressed the ongoing reorganisation within the Ministry, emphasising that the process was aimed at enhancing the country’s ability to pursue its national interests on the international stage.
“We have explained quite clearly the purpose of the reorganisation taking place at the Ministry. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is neither a non-governmental organisation nor a branch of an international institution that would require consultations with outsiders to understand what our country needs or what kind of foreign service we require to effectively advance our national interests abroad”, the FM said.
“The goal of these changes is to make the Ministry of Foreign Affairs more effective and to ensure that in today’s ever-changing world, we are better equipped to represent and protect our national interests internationally”, she continued.
Botchorishvili stressed the importance of having a capable institutional framework, both at the Ministry’s headquarters in Tbilisi and in embassies across foreign capitals.
She noted that optimizing the use of existing resources was key and highlighted the creation of a system that would provide young professionals with the opportunity to enter public service in a competitive environment and serve their country.
