Georgian PM confirms shared perception with French President on developments in Georgia

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said he cannot disclose the details of his conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the European Political Community Summit held in Tirana last Friday, but confirmed that their understanding of the developments in Georgia was aligned.

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze emphasised that during the discussion with Macron, there was a convergence of perceptions.

“We have a common perception of how processes are developing in Georgia, I can tell you that in general. I cannot go into details because it is a conversation between two people, we do not have the opportunity to make it public, but I can confirm that our perception regarding the development of events in Georgia is analogous”, the PM said.

Euronews last Friday noted that “a short, but warm encounter between the Georgian premier and French President Emmanuel Macron during the summit signalled that Georgia and the EU are turning the page on their past differences”.

Kobakhidze underlined this moment by telling journalists that “there was a period of limited communication [between Georgia and the EU] and it seems our European partners were eager to restore ties with Georgia”.
