Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Committee on European Integration of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said the ongoing visit of Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili to Budapest would reaffirm Georgia's role as a reliable and strategic partner of the European Union amid ongoing geopolitical transformations.
In his remarks over the Conference of Speakers of Parliaments from EU member and partner countries, Makhashvili noted that the main theme of the Conference focused on the present and future of the European Union.
“The main theme of the Conference focuses on the present and future of the European Union - how the EU envisions itself, its role, and its significance amid current global developments, both externally and internally. Our main message will be that Georgia was, is, and will remain a key and reliable partner of the European Union during these geopolitical transformations. Of course, for this to happen, it is important that the EU treats Georgia fairly”, the official said.
“In such a case, we will continue to be the EU’s main reliable partner in a complex region such as the South Caucasus and the Black Sea area. This will be our core message, both at the Conference and in bilateral meetings”, he concluded.
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili will hold a series of high-level meetings in Hungary.
He will participate in the Conference of Speakers of the Parliaments of the European Union Member States and Partner Countries, where he is scheduled to deliver speeches at two separate sessions.
In addition to the Conference, bilateral meetings are planned with speakers of European parliaments, further strengthening interparliamentary cooperation.
Speaker Papuashvili is leading the Georgian parliamentary delegation, which includes Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the European Integration Committee Levan Makhashvili, and Vice Speaker Giorgi Kakhiani.
