Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, speaking at a joint press conference alongside his Armenian counterpart Vahagn Khachaturyan, on Tuesday expressed optimism that Armenia and Azerbaijan would soon sign a peace agreement, marking a major step forward for stability in the South Caucasus region.
Kavelashvili emphasised the growing importance of establishing stability and peace in the region amid a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.
“In the rapidly changing geopolitical environment, the establishment of stability and peace in the region is increasingly important. We hope that in the near future Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign a peace agreement, thereby moving to a qualitatively new level of positive development dynamics and attractiveness of the region”, the President said.
He highlighted the trilateral meeting held in Tbilisi on April 17, which was the beginning of the trilateral mutual cooperation process in the countries of the South Caucasus region, noting that Georgia was firmly supporting the process of peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
“Protecting the sovereignty, national identity and cultural identity of the state is the top priority of our countries. An exemplary centuries-old friendship and strategic partnership gives us a solid basis to further develop this distinctive relationship”, he concluded.
