In a joint press statement following a high-level meeting between Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, the Armenian leader on Tuesday emphasised the strong, multifaceted, and increasingly dynamic relationship between the two neighbouring countries.
Khachaturyan welcomed Georgia’s initiative to create a trilateral cooperation platform in the South Caucasus region.
The Armenian President noted that Armenia and Georgia were currently enjoying active and multifaceted relations based on strategic cooperation, democratic values, the sovereignty of both nations, and shared Christian heritage.
He further emphasised the importance of continued high-level contacts and the deepening of cooperation between Government institutions of the two nations.
“In recent years, we have seen unprecedented levels of cooperation, and the Declaration on Strategic Partnership laid the groundwork for further deepening our mutually beneficial collaboration. The recognition of each other’s territorial integrity by both Georgia and Armenia is of particular importance for ensuring peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus. Georgia-Armenia relations are developing both in bilateral and multilateral formats”, Khachaturyan said.
Armenian and Georgian Presidents discussed a wide range of issues, including political and economic matters, as well as topics related to sports and youth. They also reviewed regional stability and long-term peace.
“Armenia stands firmly committed to prosperity and development and will continue its efforts in that direction”, Khachaturyan pointed out.
He further noted that the text of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement had been finalised and was ready to be signed.
“We hope to establish peace with Azerbaijan. Armenia deeply values Georgia’s support in this matter - your efforts toward peace and prosperity. We welcome your initiative to launch a trilateral platform and your role in this crucial issue. We also discussed a number of international, territorial, and global topics. I want to express my willingness for Armenia and Georgia to continue their friendship, brotherhood, and cooperation for the benefit of both nations”, Khachaturyan concluded.
