Giorgi Sharvashidze, the Georgian Ambassador to Armenia, on Monday highlighted the great importance of Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s official visit to Armenia as relations reached a historic peak.
A face-to-face meeting and an expanded format meeting are scheduled between Mikheil Kavelashvili and his Amenian counterpart Vahagn Khachaturyan, following which the presidents will make joint statements to the media.
During the official visit, Kavelashvili is also set to meet with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, and His Holiness Karekin II, the Catholicos of All Armenians.
“This visit is very important, because our relations have reached a historic peak. Last year, Georgia and Armenia signed a memorandum establishing a strategic partnership”, Sharvashidze said.
“Economic relations, tourism, including the peace initiative that Georgia came up with - the idea of a peaceful Caucasus, and there are many issues that are of interest to the entire [South Caucasus] region, not just our two countries”, he concluded.
