Tea Akhvlediani, the Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, on Wednesday held a meeting with Feridun Sinirlioğlu, the Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, who is on a visit to Georgia.
In her remarks, Akhvlediani expressed her gratitude to the OSCE for its firm support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
She emphasised the vital role and active involvement of the organisation in the peaceful resolution of conflicts, particularly through its co-chairmanship of the Geneva International Discussions.
The State Minister presented the priorities, goals, and objectives of her office in the areas of reconciliation and engagement, as well as policies aimed at civic equality and integration.
“The OSCE plays a vital role in the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Georgia, also serving as one of the co-chairs of the Geneva International Discussions and participating in the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism in Ergneti. In this context, we discussed in detail the grave human rights and humanitarian situation in Georgia’s Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions”, the State Minister said.
“We also reviewed the state policy on reconciliation and engagement, along with ongoing and planned peace initiatives aimed at rebuilding trust between the Georgian-Abkhaz and Georgian-Ossetian communities divided by the occupation lines and improving the social and economic conditions of the conflict-affected population. Furthermore, we explored specific ways to enhance our joint efforts to achieve more tangible results in peacebuilding and ensuring dignified living conditions for our citizens”, Akhvlediani concluded.
