Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on Friday voiced strong criticism of the European Union's approach toward Georgia, calling on Brussels to act fairly and without double standards.
Speaking to Georgian journalists on the sidelines of the ongoing Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Szijjártó expressed Hungary’s dissatisfaction with how the EU was handling relations with Tbilisi.
“We do not like Brussels’ actions toward Tbilisi. We want the European Union to act fairly, without double standards”, Szijjártó said.
He also questioned the EU’s interpretation of democracy, suggesting that in Brussels, democratic governance was often equated solely with liberal rule.
“Every time right-wing politicians win elections, discussions begin in Brussels about threats to democracy. They seem to consider only liberal governments as democratic. This is wrong, and we will try to change this situation for the better”, the Hungarian FM noted.
