Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Thursday raised concerns over what she described as increasing attempts by foreign actors to influence the country’s internal affairs through various tools.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili emphasised the importance of Georgia maintaining its sovereignty and striving to be a honourable member of the international community in order to protect its national interests.
“Georgia is a sovereign state. We are fighting precisely for freedom and for the sovereignty of our country. This is very important so that Georgia can achieve dignified membership in the international community to protect its interests to the maximum extent”, the FM said.
“For this, naturally, we still need to fight, to cope with many challenges, including foreign interference, and we see the scale that foreign interference has taken in relation to Georgia, how various tools are being used in the country's domestic politics by foreign actors to influence the country's internal politics, to influence the processes taking place within the country”, she concluded.
