Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday strongly criticised the European Union’s approach toward Georgia’s internal affairs, describing it as reminiscent of colonial-era attitudes.
In his remarks, Aliyev stressed that the Georgian people knew that Azerbaijanis were standing by their side.
“The European Commission’s attitude toward Georgia’s internal processes is completely unacceptable. It resembles a colonialist approach. They are trying to view the will of the Georgian people through the prism of a colonial past. This is absolutely unacceptable”, the Azerbaijani President said.
The Azerbaijani leader emphasised his country’s support for Georgia, reaffirming the strong ties between the two nations.
“The Georgian people know that we stand by them. The Georgian government is also aware of this. Georgia’s internal problems should be resolved by the Georgian people, not by bureaucrats in Brussels”, he concluded.
