Deepening of cooperation between Georgia and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian parliamentary delegation and Pia Kauma, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, on the sidelines of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, currently ongoing in Tashkent.
Following the meeting, Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, noted that one of the key points of discussion was Kauma’s postponed visit to Georgia, which had originally been scheduled for January.
“We discussed various topics, including cooperation between Georgia and the OSCE. We talked about the postponed visit, which was originally planned for January, and I can confirm that this visit will definitely take place”, the Parliament official said.
The conversation also addressed recommendations by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) following the October 2024 parliamentary elections in Georgia.
“We reaffirmed our readiness to work with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to implement these recommendations, so that the 2028 parliamentary elections can be held without the technical flaws observed in the previous ones”, Samkharadze noted.
The importance of Georgia’s constructive relations with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was discussed on Tuesday in a meeting between the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Pia Kauma.
Papuashvili also reviewed the parliamentary elections held in Georgia last October and the role of the OSCE/ODIHR in objectively assessing the elections.
