Regional cooperation and strategic partnership between Georgia and Turkey were discussed on Sunday in a meeting between the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and Numan Kurtulmuş, the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, on the sidelines of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, enhancing parliamentary dialogue, and discussing regional and global developments.
“The Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, congratulated me on my re-election and emphasised that the will of the people is supreme and must be respected, as it forms the foundation for future development”, Papuashvili said.
The two parliamentary leaders highlighted the long-standing friendship and fruitful cooperation between Georgia and Turkey, reaffirming their commitment to deepening strategic partnership.
A significant development from the meeting was the agreement to establish a trilateral cooperation format between the parliamentary speakers of Georgia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. This initiative is expected to enhance regional dialogue and coordination.
The conversation also covered broader regional issues, including peace efforts related to the war in Ukraine, and steps taken by the new United States administration.
Papuashvili thanked Turkey for its ongoing support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Kurtulmuş extended an invitation to Papuashvili to visit Turkey, signalling a continued commitment to high-level parliamentary exchanges and dialogue.
“Both sides agreed to deepen the strategic partnership between Georgia and Turkey”, Papuashvili noted.
