Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday met with Nuriddin Ismoilov, the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, to discuss bilateral relations and the potential for expanded cooperation in various fields.
Both sides reaffirmed the productive collaboration between the legislative bodies of Georgia and Uzbekistan.
Kobakhidze expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted the opportunities for strengthening economic, cultural, and sectoral ties between the two nations.
“Our countries enjoy good economic cooperation, but there is great potential for its expansion. Bilateral trade volumes can be significantly improved. We are making every effort to enhance our country's transit function and connectivity. Georgia is experiencing rapid economic growth. Over the past four years, our average economic growth rate has exceeded 9.5 percent, which is the highest in Europe. We follow a highly liberal economic policy, with very low tax rates and a minimal number of taxes. All of this creates excellent conditions for your investors to engage in economic and entrepreneurial activities in Georgia”, the PM said.
Kobakhidze also underlined the importance of deepening collaboration in areas such as tourism, education, arts, science, and sports, reinforcing the commitment to expanding ties beyond economic engagement.
For his part, Ismoilov congratulated Kobakhidze on his reappointment as Prime Minister of Georgia and praised the success of the ruling Georgian Dream party in the recent parliamentary elections.
“It is a great honour for me to welcome you to the Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan. I warmly recall your first visit to Uzbekistan's legislative body in 2018, when you were the Chair of the Parliament of Georgia. It is a pleasure to now host you in the capacity of Prime Minister of Georgia. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate you on your reappointment as the Head of Government and the convincing victory of the Georgian Dream party in the parliamentary elections. We are also very pleased that Shalva Papuashvili has been elected as the Chair of the 11th convocation of Parliament. In this regard, please convey our warmest congratulations to my colleague. Once again, I want to state that the decisive victory of the Georgian Dream party is a significant political event, reflecting the broad-scale reforms implemented by the Government of Georgia in all directions, as well as the support of the Georgian people”, Ismoilov noted.
He acknowledged Georgia’s progress in democratic development and governance reforms, emphasising the high level of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
