Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday said the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s “high-level” visit to Uzbekistan was “primarily” aimed at advancing key issues in bilateral relations between Georgia and Uzbekistan, particularly in terms of developing the Middle Corridor and deepening economic cooperation.
In her remarks over the visit, Botchorishvili noted that the potential in Central Asian countries, and in this case Uzbekistan, was of significant interest to Georgia.
“We will have the opportunity to hold a session of the Economic Cooperation Commission, which will allow ministers of various sectors and directions to identify key issues for future collaboration through mutual agreement and dialogue”, the Foreign Minister said.
“Of course, there will also be discussions on politically important matters for our country that are on the international agenda, where our positions may align. In this regard, a high-level visit provides an excellent opportunity for an exchange of views on all critical issues”, she concluded.
Kobakhidze on Tuesday departed for an official visit to Uzbekistan.
The visit will include high-level meetings with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, as well as the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber and the Chair of the Senate, the Government Administration said.
