Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Tuesday highlighted the importance of international cooperation in addressing human rights challenges during her official visit to Geneva.
In her remarks, Botchorishvili noted that international formats were playing a crucial role in fostering close partnerships and collaboration to tackle these issues.
She further stressed that Georgia had made significant progress in human rights and was standing as a leader in this regard compared to other countries in the region.
“The Human Rights Council is an important platform for Georgia, where we highlight issues of significance to us. We held meetings with both the High Commissioner and the Council President, discussing the challenges Georgia faces, as well as the progress achieved in various areas related to human rights. There is a full understanding that Georgia has made significant progress in many directions and stands ahead of regional countries in human rights protection”, the FM said.
“Of course, there are challenges in human rights protection, and that is precisely why international formats exist - to ensure close cooperation and partnership. Our international partners have expressed readiness for such collaboration”, she continued.
Botchorishvili further added that the discussions had also addressed the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories.
“The humanitarian situation in the occupied territories was also discussed. We reviewed the opportunities within international formats to ensure continuous attention to these issues and to seek effective mechanisms for delivering appropriate international responses to the challenges that Georgia has been addressing for decades”, she concluded.
