Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó on Tuesday expressed his respect for the work of the Georgian Government during a press briefing following his meeting with his Georgian counterpart Maka Botchorishvili.
In his remarks, Szijjártó emphasised that Hungary and Georgia had jointly cosponsored the peace resolution initiated by the United States at the United Nations, which he stressed was the only “compatible way” to establish peace.
“We have already begun discussions to finalise the date for the intergovernmental council meeting, as we consider it to be of great importance and hope to hold it as soon as possible”, the Hungarian FM said.
“We attach strategic significance to our cooperation with Georgia. We respect the efforts led by the Georgian Government. As you can see, we work very well together on the international stage. Just yesterday at the United Nations, we cosponsored the US-initiated peace resolution, which, in my opinion, is the only viable way to achieve peace. The world has changed significantly, and despite both of our nations facing serious challenges, the situation has drastically shifted under the leadership of the new US administration, affecting both the Hungarian and Georgian governments”, he concluded.
