Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Monday said that António Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, had emphasised that the Georgian Government was pursuing a “very correct policy” and taking “highly commendable steps”.
In her remarks following a meeting with Guterres in Geneva, Botchorishvili noted that the situation in Georgia’s Russian-occupied territories remained a top priority for the country’s Government and would continue to be so in the future.
“We discussed ongoing processes in Georgia, we also discussed challenges facing the country. The United Nations Secretary-General emphasised that Georgia is pursuing a very correct policy and is taking steps with a very correct policy, which is very commendable. He is well aware of the developments and processes in Georgia and once again highlighted that the Georgian Government is taking very correct steps in order to ensure stability in the country and enable the country to develop stably and take the right steps in the future”, the Foreign Minister said.
“Of course, we must respond to actions that seek to strengthen illegal occupation and we see various steps, be it the so-called elections or steps taken to launch an airport, we must respond to this, within the framework that the international law gives us”, Botchorishvili concluded.
