Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday identified Central Asia as a region of particular strategic interest to Georgia. He characterised Turkmenistan as a reliable partner and a friendly state, noting that the bilateral relationship between the two nations is rooted in a long history of friendship and mutual respect.
In his remarks at a joint briefing with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Prime Minister Kobakhidze noted that the President’s visit serves as a significant contribution to the further strengthening of bilateral ties.
Kobakhidze noted that the two sides signed a joint declaration, alongside several cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding across various sectors, all of which are set to further deepen the partnership between Georgia and Turkmenistan.
“I am pleased to host the President of Turkmenistan, His Excellency Mr. Serdar Berdimuhamedow, in Georgia. It is noteworthy that this is the second state visit by the President of Turkmenistan to Georgia. The first such visit took place in 2015, when Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow visited our country”, he said.
“I am confident that the President's visit will make an important contribution to the further development of Georgia-Turkmenistan relations. Today we signed a joint declaration, as well as agreements and memorandums of understanding on cooperation in various fields. These documents will further strengthen the ties between our countries”, Kobakhidze continued.
He emphasized that during his meeting with the President, the two sides reviewed the core pillars of the Georgia-Turkmenistan partnership and exchanged views on pressing regional and international developments.
“Central Asia is a region of particular interest to Georgia. In this context, we view Turkmenistan as a reliable partner and a friendly state. The relations established between our countries are based on many years of friendship and mutual respect, creating a very solid foundation for further cooperation”, Kobakhidze concluded.
