Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Sunday said that developing partnerships with global powers, including China, is in Georgia’s national interest and should not be viewed as a choice between partners.
In an interview with Imedi TV, Botchorishvili stressed that Georgia seeks to strengthen its partnerships in multiple directions rather than prioritising one partner over another.
“We do not see these relationships as a choice between partners. For us, this is about developing partnerships in different directions. Especially when it comes to global players, it is naturally in our country’s interest to maintain the closest possible relations with everyone. In this regard, we have our own national interests, including those related to our country’s role and the development of its economic strength. It is therefore important for us to strengthen our economic ties with the East, including expanding our cooperation and partnership with China”, she said.
The Foreign Minister further highlighted the recent deepening of bilateral relations between Georgia and China, noting that the relationship had entered a new phase that would significantly contribute to stronger cooperation.
“Recently, our relationship has advanced to a new stage, which will significantly strengthen our bilateral ties with China. China is a major player in today’s world and, naturally, it is in our interest to maintain good relations and well-developed ties with China”, Botchorishvili concluded.
