Achim Köhler, a representative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Thursday said Georgia is a sovereign state and its citizens should be the ones to decide the country’s future.
In his remarks, Köhler noted that Georgia should not be subjected to excessive influence from either the European Union or its neighbouring countries.
“Georgia is a sovereign state, and the citizens of Georgia must decide for themselves what they want. This is precisely where solutions can be found for Georgia, for Europe as a whole, and for the wider world. Georgia should not come under excessively strong influence from the European Union or from neighbouring countries”, Köhler said.
He also pointed to developments in Germany, noting that the country’s largest opposition party, Alternative for Germany, faces political isolation in several areas and is prevented from presenting certain positions.
“Today, we also have situations in Germany where the country’s largest or strongest party, Alternative for Germany, is isolated in many areas of politics and is not given the opportunity to present certain positions”, he concluded.
