Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said that eliminating poverty by 2030 was “entirely achievable” if the country maintained its current pace of economic growth and declining poverty levels.
Speaking at a briefing held at the Government Administration, Kobakhidze noted that Georgia’s economy had expanded significantly since 2020, growing from 50 billion GEL ($18 799 385 000) to 105 billion GEL ($39 478 708 500) in national currency terms and from $16 billion to $38 billion in dollar terms.
“Our most important task is to maintain a high rate of economic growth, which directly determines the creation of new jobs, the increase in average salaries for employees, the expansion of opportunities for social support for the population, and the reduction of poverty”, the PM said.
He added that maintaining the existing trend of strong economic growth and declining poverty would make the elimination of poverty by 2030 “fully realistic”.
