Georgia has shown notable progress in the 2026 Index of Economic Freedom, published by The Heritage Foundation. According to the latest report, the country’s overall score has risen to 69.6, marking a 0.6-point increase compared to the previous year.
With this improvement, Georgia now ranks 35th globally, signaling a positive trend in its economic environment.
The Economic Freedom Index assesses national economies using several criteria, including the protection of property rights, tax burden, business freedom, and the efficiency of government regulations and bureaucracy.
On the continental stage, Georgia holds the 20th position among 44 European countries.
The report highlights that Georgia’s economic freedom score remains well above both the world and regional averages. Under the Index’s grading scale, the Georgian economy continues to be classified as Moderately Free.
“Despite external and political challenges, Georgia’s economy shows solid results in key areas of economic policy. The government has implemented reforms to improve regulatory efficiency and maintains an open market policy and low tax rates. The economy has also demonstrated a moderate level of resilience”, the report said.
