Mariam Kvrivishvili, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, on Tuesday said that the significance of Georgia went beyond defining it merely as a Black Sea state and the country served as a bridge between regions whose futures were becoming increasingly interconnected.
In her speech during the 34th session of the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly in London, Kvrivishvili emphasised that Georgia’s identity and prosperity as a maritime country had always been shaped by the waters that connect continents, cultures, and economies.
“Georgia’s economic development trajectory is unequivocally strong - from 2021 to 2024, the average real GDP growth reached 9.8%. This dynamic continued in 2025, with the economy growing by 7.8 percent in the first nine months of the year. This growth is largely driven by the transport, logistics, and maritime sectors, highlighting the role of connectivity and strong value chains as fundamental drivers of our economic prosperity”, Kvrivishvili said.
Kvrivishvili also stated that Georgia stands before the IMO member states as a committed partner in creating a connected and sustainable maritime future based on joint cooperation.
